The Lowdown

 

Leading the programming team responsible for creating all the computer code which runs and controls the Applications, Producing the technical specification and managing the overall code development process.

 

 

Requirements:

To do this role, you will need to:

 

·         be a team player and a leader,

·         be able to inspire and motivate the programming team to ensure that everything gets fixed on schedule,

·         have a hands-on understanding of all programming roles,

Will I need a qualification?

You will generally need to have a degree to be a Lead Programmer. This could be in physics, maths or computer science. Many new entrants also have a postgraduate qualification as well.

You will need to be able to programme in  C, C++, C# or JAVA, ASP, VB . Must be proficient with JavaScript, HTML, AJAX.

You will usually need at least Three years’ experience working in Consulting Company as a programmer to progress to being Lead Programmer.  

 

The ICT industry is constantly evolving, both creatively and technically, and you will need to keep up to date with the latest developments. Most training is self-driven and much happens on the job. Experience is the key to this role.

 

 

Job Description:

What does a Lead Programmer do?

Supervise programming activities of a central data processing organization; does related work as required. Programmers have various roles and specialisms including all Project Activity.

They are responsible for the technical specification and manage the overall code development process. It is also their job to make sure that the team delivers on time and within budget. 

The Lead Programmer manages the software Application End to End (from start to finish). In conjunction with other key team leads (ERP Functional Lead) they develop the technical specification for the Application of ERP, and then delegate the different elements to their team of programmers. 

They usually compile all the technical documentation for the software produced by the programming team and ensure the quality, effectiveness of All Application Code. 

 

The Lead Programmer must also provide support and guidance to the programming team, making sure that the programmers understand the specification and have the right skills and training to be able to do their jobs effectively. Lead Programmers will also write a substantial amount of code themselves.

Ensuring  the successful delivery of the end to end implementation of the Application on-time, on-scope, Within Budget. Overseeing all aspects of the ERP Application Development and Delivery.

Requirements:

·         be able to lead, inspire and motivate the teams, maintain enthusiasm for the project.

·         Provide strong leadership when difficulties arise

·         Be able to multitask

·         Create good working relationships between employee with everyone involved

·         have good organisational and problem-solving abilities

·         have good negotiation, conflict resolution and decision – making skills

·         have good knowledge of Information Technology Industry.

Manage finances for assigned projects and ensure all project expenditure has appropriate approvals

Job Description:

What does a Project Manager do?

Leading a Project team in delivering a solution to the customer using the appropriate business measurements and terms and conditions for the project.

They control the financial and other resources needed for a project and co-ordinate with the Delivery team.

 

The reprioritise when production deadlines are a concern, manage risks and plan for contingencies. The project manager might also have to oversee on-going maintenance issues even after Go-Live  until Support After Go-Live.
